If you are staying in the Sorrento area what you need to do is to get to the central train station in Sorrento and from there you need to get the Circumvesuvian train or the Capmania Express train all the way to Naples.

The differences are massive as the normal Circumvesuviana trains are usually quite old and without airconditioning and during the hot summer months the journey can be unpleasant, plus the travelling time will be over 1 hour as the train stops in every single stations along the way before reaching Napoli centrale (Piazza Garibaldi). The Campania Express fast touristic line is the best option if you wish to travel stress free from Sorrento to Naples by train. The service runs from Naples to Sorrento and viceversa cutting the journey time by 30 minutes as the train doesn’t stop at all the stations as the regular service does. Plus they offer a guarantee seat, trains with airconditioning and a space to store your suitcases. Please note that the service runs from middle of March to the end of October and the tickets can be purchased online via the official site of the EAV Campania trains here and the price is €8 one way or at the station 20 minutes before departure.
