What To Do in Sorrento
Sorrento is located about 1 hour drive from Naples in the Campania Region. 1) Visit the cathedral which is only 5 minutes walk from Piazza Tasso the main square in Sorrento. Sorrento’s cathredal is a Roman Catholic cathedral deticated to San Giacomo and San Filippo and was build in the 11th century. The poet Torquato Tasso from Sorrento was was baptized here.
2) Take a walk to see Vallone dei Mulini (Mill’s Gorge) located only 2 minutes walk behind Piazza Tasso. This is a ruin of an old flour mills and was built in the 13th century. The mills is known for its unique vegetation and plants. This is considered one of the most beautiful sites in the Sorrento Peninsula.
3) Take the views in at Villa Comunale Park a short walk from the main Piazza Tasso, with incredible views over the Gulf of Naples, Mount Vesuvius and the Island of Capri. The park is a favorite place with locals.
4) Walk the small streets (so called Vicoletti) of the old town where you will find great little shops selling fantastic handmade souvenirs and also the well known Limoncello is produced locally in Sorrento.
5) Enjoy an aperitivo the Italian way in many bars in Piazza Tasso and see the world passing by. The square is named after the poet Torquato Tasso in and at the centre of the square there is a statue dedicated to the poet.
6) Relax at the beach at the Bagni Della Regina Giovanna (Baths of the Queen Giovanna) which are located outside the centre of Sorrento about 2 km west of town. This is a fantastic place with clear water and a rocky beach and fantastic views and during weekdays is not very crowded.
